One Of The Most Calming Place Maramalai - Kanyakumari

Maramalai, southern part of Western Ghats, is contiguous with KM Tiger reserve, and a small pocket with in it was released for clove plantations in early days. The plantation was under single ownership for long and later it was disposed off, part by part, and now there are 42 or so divisions. The residents of the place are the workers of the plantations and the caretakers. Clove is a seasonal crop and the presence of the estate owners, at the place, will be only during the season.Apart from that, they are occasional visitors, for paying the wages, and other such activities.

A glimpse of trip to the tips of Maramalai Mount, where we have an ancestral clove farm. The mount is situated in the southern part of the Western Ghats and is situated within a reserve forest. Not being a tourist destination nature it is the best place to get immersed in nature with absolutely no connectivity.
This place is one of the most calming places.

Though you can see expected elephants in the track, you were to satisfy with the sighting of a lone mouse deer. After a 40 minute drive along the thick woods, you entered the clove plantations. Another 20 minutes took us to the gate of the office cum residence of the care taker of ‘Star Plantations’.The temperature had dropped so you can wear into sweaters.Night was very cold. It is one of the three major water sources to Perunchanni reservoir, the other two being Kalikesham River from Muthukuli and Masupathi River from Maramalai. The confluence of the threesome, after the reservoir is called ‘Paraliyaar’.Paraliyar later joins Kodayar at Moovattumukham near Thiruvattar, named Kuzhithura River there after, joining Arabian Sea at Thengapattinam near Marthandam.

POLLUTION IN MAARAMALAI The rubber factory in kiriparaireleases the formic acid which mixes with the  water in perunjani dam  and contaminates that water. The waste from paulkuzham estate mixes with water in river tharuvai and reaches pazhaiyaru.Mayilaru rubber factory wastes mixes with pechiparrai dam. Due  to  the  above  mentioned  pollution  natural  fish  vegetation  gets destroyed. Thus the KK dist. is losing a lot of fishes from this areas.

Christmas is so special is namma oooru - Kanyakumari

The joy of happiness sets in each and everyone’s hearts the moment we realise that the advent season has come…yeah “ It’s Christmas time in Kanyakumari ” the time for us to welcome the baby Jesus inside our cribs. Special are the Christmas, which is celebrated with friends and families in our hometown. Here we give you why Christmas is so special is namma oooru…

The real celebration of Christmas starts soon after the mass ends….that’s when the pomp show of each street is exhibited. “chenda melam” outside the church engulfs everyone into the celebration mode. Hanging around with friends to other streets, to pay visit of different cribs and, the epic moment is when you dance with your pals and paying no attention to anybody….reaching home early in the morning after back to back fun with friends completes the Christmas eve.

No Christmas is complete without going to beach; it’s a tradition or per say a “Kanyakumari” thing….. on the day of Christmas evening families friends and neighbour going to beach is a kind of partying or socializing for us…and for friends the joy it brings the bike ride along the coastline to visit beaches are the best memories in their Christmas diary.

Starting from the Christmas bell to the Christmas dress, every little things which reminds us the “Christmas season” will always plays a memory cord which takes us back to the celebration mode, especially to namma orru christmas.

The beach at Thengapattanam - Kanyakumari

Beach has all we need to live a healthy and happy life. Its magical healing properties have been touching the souls of musicians, philosophers, writers, actors, painters, and artists in general. Beaches are territories of dreams. They are our favorite refuges; they are a protectorate for the soul during spring, summer, autumn, and winter. They shed our tears, and they hear our pain. For surfers, it's the best place to meditate.A day at the beach is never lost time. When the warm grains of sand touch our hearts, we know we're in the right place. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and let the beach invade your body. Beach Rules: Soak up the sun. Ride the waves. Breathe the salty air. Feel the breeze. Build sandcastles. Rest, relax, reflect. Collect seashells.....

Our exploration started with a search for the foot prints of the Dutch on the Indian soil. Attingal Queen got the right to rule this area in 1700 AD. During the middle of the 17th century, the naval forces headed by Nicolwar besieged the town and gained control of it. In 1694, the forces of the Attingal Queen fought the Dutch, chased them out and regained its control.

The Dutch again attacked Thengapattanam during the time of the famous battle of Colachel where it is believed that some 80 Muslims in the teritory lost their lives. The 'Kuntadipattan Paarai' which came under the attack of Dutch Cannons stand out to be a 'living memorial' today. Next, we visited the Malik Ibn Dinar Mosque. It is believed that Cheraman Perumal, one of the rulers of the Chera Dynasty got influenced by the teachings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and went to meet him. On his return, he died at a place called Salala, in Oman. Prior to his death, he wrote letters to his Kingdom to accept Islam and follow the teachings of Malik Ibn Dinar, one of the first known Muslims to have come to India to propagate Islam. He constructed several Mosques in the Kingdom and this is one among them.

Thengapattanam 'Pozhi' is a place where the Thamiraparani river merges with the Arabian sea. The beach at Thengapattanam is a star attraction to the tourists. The breath taking sunset and the cool refreshing wind from the Arabian sea gives a soothing experience.

A fine picnic spot and beach. No much tourist here. The place is calm and superb. You can see the river merging with the sea.If you are in morning time then do not miss to go to sunrise which is very much natural and romantic.

A pristine flowers village located in Kanyakumari

It is the scent of jasmine that first hits you at Thovalai, located at the southern tip of India. Sprawling carpets of colour spread across wide vistas greet you, as you enter here. The air is filled with the thick fragrance of myriad flowers, even as king-size garlands hanging on both sides welcome you. Though located in Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.

A pristine village located in Kanyakumari district which borders Kerala, Thovalai is the perfect getaway for those who are inclined towards nature. A short detour from the National Highway to Kanyakumari near Nagercoil takes you to this village made distinct with its vibrant dash of colours all along the way. To locals, Thovalai is synonymous with flowers of all shapes, sizes and hues.

The market here begins as early as 4 am. Thovalai is the sole supplier of flowers to many parts of Kanyakumari district and some parts of Kerala. Come Onam, people from border villages flock to this unassuming market-place with its fresh produce on sale at really affordable prices. In addition to home-grown flowers like jasmine, lotus and roses, many varieties of roses and marigold from Salem and Hosur too can be bought from here.

As you enter the market, the sweet smell of flowers mingles with the background chorus of chirping birds, making you take an instant liking to the place. One cannot but help feel completely at home here, with its friendly banter and atmosphere of camaraderie. Business, however, is brisk with the market winding up by around 8 am.

A short drive of 13 km from here will take you further to Avaraikulam, abundant with fields of jasmine, rose and a few varieties of marigold, in addition to scores of windmills along the way. Incessant rain last season turned out to be a spoilsport for farmers here, causing a supply shortage of jasmine that have a huge demand among buyers.

Though Onam is your festival, it is the farmers of Thovalai who eagerly wait for the festival. Most of us used to be engaged with floriculture. But with flowers no more profitable business, a lot of lands was given for setting up windmills,” says Madhavan, a local farmer. If you feel adventurous and are willing to spend some time, take a detour from Aralvoimozhi on your way back. An 86-km drive through what appears to be a ghat road -with a rough patch of around 20 km in between- will take you through a few historically significant and breathtakingly beautiful places like Kulasekharam, Thripparappu and Kaliyal, finally entering Nedumangad in Thiruvananthapuram.

Lush meadows, green ponds, abundant paddy fields and majestic mountainous views greet you all along the route. You also cannot miss the host of brick-kilns on either side of the road. Steep inclines leading to numerous small temples on hill-tops can also be seen as you drive along. The whole journey does not fail to charm you with its bucolic settings embued with rustic beauty, evoking in us a nostalgic longing for days of yore.

One of the oldest temples in Thovalai. This temple has its main god Murugan. The main function of this temple was Soorasamgaram. It was the main and grand temple function in Thovalai. The function held on October or November month Every year.

Beauty of Aruvikkarai River - Kanyakumari district

Beauty of Aruvikkarai River Thiruvattar in Kanyakumari district It is between the places Thiruvattar and Mathoor.it was a small village and not much popular area visit here only local people.

The natural water flow here is the main attraction.

I thought how lovely and how strange a river is. A river is a river, always there, scene that a river was flowing, jumping, dancing over the rocks.  Really it was a great treat for our eyes.

By the side there was a channel, which took water from the river and distribute to other places of the village and also hydraulic system was made in the river.

There is a check dam across the river Paraliyar.  Water was flowing over the check dam to the rocks like a waterfall.  Since it was summer season, the water level was very less in the river.  So the people were using the check dam to move edge to other edge.  When the water level increases in the river people cannot walk through the check dam.  Many houses were locating both the sides of the river and people were using the check dam were taking bath in the river itself.

Many different kinds of small fishes were swimming in the water between the rocks.  So it’s quiet common that a crane was standing there for catching the fishes.

Really the unknown Aruvikkarai was very great and beautiful place to visit.  So we are happy that to introduce a new tourist area.  We have the plan to visit the place once again.
